It is estimated that 500,000 people will be flying into London for the Olympics and Paralympics this summer.

This figures include  100,000 athletes, 20,000 members of the media and 150 heads of state. Most of them will arrive London via Heathrow.

Heatrow Airport   will be the start and finish line for the bulk of visitors, giving the country’s biggest airport its busiest day ever.

Heatrow is ready for Aug 13.

That day will be Monday 13 August, the day after the closing ceremony and the day 65% of visitors are planning to leave.

Some 200,000 bags will be squeezed on to the baggage system – that’s 35% more than on a normal day and about 13,000 more than it is designed to handle.

Of those bags, 15,000 will be oversized – full of canoes, javelins, bikes and poles for the pole vault. There will also be more than 980 firearms to check, plus ammunition.

Extra plane?

The Paralympics is a third of the size of the main event but it is still a huge challenge.

The Chinese team are arriving on 27 different planes and they’ll probably need an extra plane at the end to carry all their medals”

Heathrow will have to deal with a month’s worth of wheelchair users in just a week – about 1,800 in total.

Thirteen new scissor lifts and 100 new ramps have been deployed to load and unload wheelchairs while there are six new powered stair climbers to move large electric wheelchairs.

Two-hundred extra staff will welcome the Paralympians and help with the biggest challenge of all – making sure every athlete is reunited quickly with their chair.

Airbus is working hard to delivery  the first green A380 which will be converted into a VIP configuration for Prince Al-Waleed, Saudi billionaire.

Although Airbus failed to delivery the Aircraft in 2011 which was the targeted year of the delivery,  the company is sure that the Aircraft will be delivered to an undisclosed completion centre “soon” for VIP configuration.

There are only two conversion centers in the world have capabele of handling this project;  Jet Aviation and Lufthansa Technik.  The next question will be that which company will handle it and how much will  the programme’s total costs?

Airbus has forecast a total market for about 30 sales of A380s with VIP interiors.

Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, today introduced its newest and longest-range business jet, the Citation Longitude at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE). This launch follows on the heels of Cessna’s announcement, just over six months ago, of the new Citation M2 and Citation Latitude.

oasting a 4,000-nautical-mile range and a maximum speed of Mach .86, the Citation Longitude will make a non-stop flight from New York to Paris, London to Dubai or Beijing to Moscow. At a price of $25.999 million, Cessna believes that the Citation Longitude is the best value 4,000-nautical-mile super mid-size business jet available.

Scott Ernest, Cessna president and CEO said: “The Citation Longitude sets itself apart with the largest Citation cabin, intercontinental range and a price point unmatched by other business jets with similar performance. This super mid-size jet sets a new standard for cabin efficiency, connectivity and stylish comfort.”

The Citation Longitude will be powered by two Silvercrest engines, with 11,000 pounds of thrust, made by Snecma (Safran group). These engines lead the industry in fuel efficiency, weight and maintainability. The engines will be on an on-condition maintenance plan, which is expected to reduce the operating costs of the aircraft because maintenance intervals will be extended significantly.

“We are thrilled to bring the Silvercrest engine to Cessna customers because of its best-in-class efficiency, reliability and quality,” Ernest said. “This engine is expected to take the Citation Longitude to a new level and give our customers the range, efficiency and noise-reduction they need to be successful in today’s competitive environment.”

The Citation Longitude’s state-of-the-art cockpit features Garmin G5000 avionics with touch-screen controls and all of the capabilities required to comply with emerging operating requirements for intercontinental aircraft, including FANS/CPDLC, ADSB and RNP.

With space for a crew of two plus up to eight passengers and one optional additional crew member seat, the Citation Longitude features a stand-up 6-foot (1.8 meter) high, 31-foot (9.4 meters) flat floor passenger cabin. Cessna’s intelligent cabin technology developed specifically for the Citation line, Clairity ^TM, will be standard on the Longitude to provide each passenger the ‘ultimate connectivity experience.’

Cabin seat configuration options include a dual-club eight-seat arrangement and a four-place forward club with a three-place couch and entertainment credenza. Cabin-length indirect LED lighting is provided overhead in the passenger service units with variable adjustment for direct reading lights and more. For long-distance travel comfort, the cabin is equipped with a dual-zone temperature control, a fully operational galley with an oven and cold storage along with a pressurized water system. The aircraft features a large lavatory equipped with a vacuum-assist toilet. The cabin also features in-flight access to a spacious baggage storage area.

Qatar Airways negotiations to buy the Bombardier CSeries are on hold as the airline deals with other expansion issues.

“We are very busy [and] have our hands full,” Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said during the EBACE business aviation show in Geneva, pointing to fielding plans for the Boeing 787, Airbus A380, A350 and A320NEO. As a result “we have, at the moment, delayed our further negotiations for the CSeries.” However, he says he remains interested in the CSeries, Bombardier’s narrowbody. The negotiations could resume in 6-12 months, he notes.

Al Baker sees the CSeries in use for both the airline and to support Qatar’s leasing arm. “We want to be a major player in the aircraft leasing business.” Qatar’s leasing arm has a fleet of 35 aircraft, all operated by the airline, but in the next 12-18 months some of the aircraft exiting Qatar Airways service will be made available for lease to others.

Furthermore, Qatar Airways, in July, will take delivery of its first Boeing 787, which will fly daily at the Farnborough air show. The aircraft will then return to Boeing to install the connectivity elements for high-speed internet service, before commencing revenue service on the Doha-London route in August.

GENEVA  - Qatar Executive, the charter division of Doha-based Qatar Airways, has signed up to buy 10 Global 7000 and 8000 corporate jets from Canada’s Bombardier Inc. to strengthen its fleet, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said Monday.

Al Baker also said at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition that Qatar Executive has reached a strategic alliance with Bombardier’s jet unit Flexjet.

He told journalists that Qatar Airways won’t take delivery of the Airbus A380s that it has on order unless Airbus can provide a permanent fix to cracks in brackets inside the wings that Airbus is working to resolve on jets in production.
